Before – and perhaps, in part, inspiring – the current reboot mania that grips the TV industry, eyebrows raised at the notion of reviving the late 1970s show “Battlestar Galactica,” widely seen as a “Star Wars” knock-off. But Moore’s remake elevated the material light years beyond its origins, creating a commentary on post-9/11 culture and the war on terror which garnered the series a 2005 Peabody Award.
Moore went on to breathe life into the “Outlander” book series by author Diana Gabaldon, translating the books into a successful cable series on Starz. “Outlander,” now in its third season. has journeyed from Scotland to Paris to the Caribbean. Moore describes these shifts as creatively exciting but difficult on production as it necessitates new sets, new locations, new costumes and new cast members each season.
An early adopter of social media interaction with fans while writing on “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine,” Moore has more than 100,000 Twitter followers.
Moore got his start writing spec scripts for “Star Trek: The Next Generation” before joining the show’s writing staff and continuing with the franchise through two spin-offs. Moore also oversaw the first season of HBO’s cult-appeal “Carnivale” and wrote on “Roswell.” More recently, he executive produced Syfy’s “Helix.”
