Murder Charge Dropped In Case Of Bulgarian National's Death In Rettendon

A murder charge against a man accused of stabbing to death a Bulgarian man in Rettendon has been dropped.
The CPS say there's not a "realistic prospect of a conviction" in the case of victim 19 year old Denis Petkov of East Hanningfield Road.
An Essex Police spokesperson said: "The Crown Prosecution Service, in full consultation with Essex Police, has decided that a man charged in connection with the death of a 19-year-old man should face no further action.
"Denis Petkov, of East Hanningfield Road, Rettendon, died after receiving one stab wound to the chest at an address in East Hanningfield Road, on March 11.
"Based on the information known at the time by Essex Police, it was the correct decision to charge, but as the investigation continued, it became clear that there was not a realistic prospect of conviction.
"This was a tragic incident in which a young man lost his life, and we have kept Mr Petkov's family in Bulgaria, fully informed of developments throughout the investigation.
"Officers are satisfied that they are not currently looking for anyone else in connection with the death of Mr Petkov.
"Anyone with information is asked to make contact with the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate.
"A file will now be prepared for Her Majesty's Coroner."
