Jamie Denbo of Orange is the New Black calls out sexism & ageism in Hollywood

Hollywood actresses have been lifting the lid on the screen industry's terrible attitude to women, and one of the cast of Orange is the New Black has joined in after an ageing "American treasure" deemed her too old to play his wife despite a 14-year age gap between them.

Jamie Denbo, who plays inmate Shelley Ginsberg in the show, let rip in fantastic form last week after the old male star who would be playing her character's husband dismissed her because he thought she wasn't young enough, despite him being old enough to be her father.

"I was just informed that at the age of 43, I am TOO OLD to play the wife of a 57 year old," she wrote. "Oh, the characters also have an 18 year-old daughter. I am TOO OLD to be the mother of an 18 year-old."

Twitter immediately gathered its popcorn and drew near to listen. Denbo's comments follow Jessica Chastain's commitment to fight the gender pay gap, and Rose McGowan tweeting an actor's sexist requests in a casting call.

Denbo continued: "The real wife of the 57 year-old actor is EASILY AT LEAST 50. But this fucker wants to be tv married to a 38 year-old - TOPS. This is a FIRST marriage, btw. Not a re-wife. Which would make a little more sense."

She finished: "Old white men, enjoy your last run. We are all fucking done with you lizards."

Her followers, understandably dying to know who this person was, begged for Denbo to tell all, but she refused saying, "I'd love to. But I don't want to ruin this guy for you. He is an 'American treasure'."

Down with American treasures who are this tragic – and to people who displayed the same delightful attitude.

Shortly after posting, Denbo tweeted that the trolling had started: "Happy to report it took over 48 hours for the trolls to start harassing this 'spoiled, ugly, libtard actress'. Step up your game boys!"

The more that actresses speak out, the more shaming the sexism and ageism must become. Well done Jamie Denbo, and all who fight for women's rights in Hollywood.
