How to delete a pivot table in Excel in 2 different ways
- To delete an Excel pivot table, select all the cells in the table and press Delete on your keyboard.
- A pivot table is a helpful Excel tool to view your data, but you might not need to keep it around forever.
- If the pivot table is alone on its own Excel sheet, you can also delete the sheet to eliminate the pivot table.
A pivot table is a powerful tool in Excel that lets you interactively recontextualize information stored in a spreadsheet so you can analyze your data in different ways. After your pivot table has served its purpose, though, you might not want to keep it around forever. In most cases, you can delete it with a single keystroke.
How to delete a pivot table in Excel on Windows
There's nothing especially remarkable about a pivot table; to delete it, just select the entire table (click and drag the mouse to select all the cells in the table) and press the Delete key on your keyboard.
If it isn't obvious where the pivot table starts or ends, or it's difficult to select the cells using the mouse and keyboard, there's an easy way to select the entire pivot table:
1. Click any cell in a pivot table.
2. In the ribbon at the top of the window, click PivotTable Analyze.
3. In the Actions section, click Select, then Entire PivotTable.
Now press Delete to remove it from your spreadsheet.
Quick tip: If the pivot table is alone on its own sheet, you can delete the entire sheet from your spreadsheet as well. Right-click the tab at the bottom of the window and choose Delete.
How to delete a pivot table in Excel for web
Just like in Excel for Windows, deleting a pivot table from Excel for the web is simply a matter of selecting the table and pressing the Delete key on your keyboard. Be sure to select all the cells in the pivot table before pressing Delete.
If the pivot table is located on its own sheet — there's no other data — then you can delete the sheet to remove the pivot table. Right-click the sheet tab at the bottom of the window and select Delete.
