Harlow: Man Banned From Keeping Dogs

A man from Harlow has been banned from keeping dogs for five years after two animals were found extremely underweight at his home.

42 year-old Darren Wilkes, from Long Ley, was found guilty of causing unnecessary suffering.

The dogs were found covered in flea dirt at the address back in January. They were taken into the car of the RSPCA and have now both been rehomed.

RSPCA inspector Stephen Reeves said: "I am always appalled that owners can leave their animals without food. If you don't want to or can't look after your pet any more, you should seek help, not just leave them to suffer.

"This case has taken a long time to reach a conclusion but at least now the ban, although not a lifetime one, means that no other dogs will have to suffer as Chico and Blue did for several years to come."

Wilkes was also given a 24-month community order with two years of supervision and attendance at the Thinking Skills Programme.
